About Us

St. Thomas School, the pride of Chunar is a holy temple of knowledge where the young children are nurtured to unfold and grow the bundle of possibilities and potential latent in them by providing ample guided and facilitated opportunities and conducive environment. The school is the result of a dream that someone dared to dream. It was back in 2006 that Late Rev. Fr. Henry Suares initiated the process of establishing this portal of education. Since then the school has grown down the years under the able and skilled leadership of Fr. Walter D’Silva and Fr. Melwin Wilson D’Souza. Since 2019 the mantle of responsibility is placed on me to progress further what my predecessors had begun. I place on record the dedicated service rendered by the sisters of Congregation of Jesus down the years. The invaluable service given by the teachers in imparting knowledge and that of the supportive staff for the smooth running of the school too is humbly appreciated.

Our school motto “Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya” inspires us to equip our students with the skills to dispel the darkness that is found within oneself and in the larger society. In order to realize the motto of our school we try to instil values in our students that can really illumine their minds and they become torch bearers in the society. Our school community encourages staff, students, past students and parents to involve themselves fully in all aspects of school life and to identify themselves with its core values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Cooperation and Achievement.

If an institution has to be successful it has to work on the managerial principle of team work. Keeping this in mind we have delegated powers to the members of the staff so that they are able to contribute their best in planning and in preparing strategies for the achievement of excellence in every level. We have a responsible Student Council which helps the management to build an atmosphere that enables the students to learn various life skills. It is through the Student Council the students are empowered and they are given an opportunity to learn leadership qualities. The school is effectively using IT tools so that our students become fit minds that are: creative, disciplined, synthesizing, respectful and ethical.

Vision & Mission

By the next three years the school will enhance the gender awareness among the students, staff and larger community by giving equal opportunities to both the sexes and sensitize the parents by conducting workshops and seminars. The school will incorporate the use of technology by increasing the number of smart classes; improve the communicative skills of the students by conducting morning assemblies, workshops on phonetics and emphasizing English Speaking in the campus. The school will reach out to the weaker sections of the society to improve literacy rate and bring about change in the mindset of the people regarding gender equality by utilizing the services of the Social Awareness Club and Dramatics Clubs of our School.
